WHY ARE YOU DOING THE RIDE?

I am doing the Perth Laverton Cycling Challenge because it combines three of my passions. Firstly, I am passionate about supporting and building rural and regional communities. I was brought up in rural Queensland and appreciate that creating city-rural relationships are important for the development and longevity of these communities.

I love cycling so riding 1150kms over 8 days is a good excuse to spend more time riding my bike and spread awareness about the health benefits of cycling. I am also looking forward to sharing the training and ride journey with like-minded people.

Finally, I enjoy travelling and immersing myself in culture. I’m looking forward to experiencing the vastness and beauty of outback Western Australia, meeting the locals and learning about Indigenous culture and country. So combining all these passions, why wouldn’t I do the ride?

WHY DO YOU WANT TO FUNDRAISE FOR THE PERTH LAVERTON CYCLING PROJECT?

I had the opportunity to complete my third year of medicine in Kalgoorlie. During this year I was welcomed and moved by the local Indigenous and Goldfields people.

I would now like to give back to this region. The Laverton Cycling Project has continually evolved and improved since it was founded 3 years ago. It continues to generate excitement, inspiration and the development of fine motor and problem solving skills.

It also fosters fun exercise, health education and mentorship, all of which are required to build a happier and healthier community. It is a privilege to be part of the project this year!
